The responsibility of clerics and preachers

His Eminence Shaikh Ahmed al Khalili, Grand Mufti of the Sultanate –
Clerics and preachers in Islam undertake a great role as they inform people about Allah the Exalted, they are also honoured by the fact that Allah was the first guide for good as He said in the Quran: (Allah calls to the home of peace (i.e. Paradise, by accepting Allah’s religion of Islamic Monotheism and by doing righteous good deeds and abstaining from polytheism and evil deeds) and guides whom He wills to a Straight Path.)

Clerics and preachers have the same mission as the messengers since they are warmers and bearers of glad tidings (Messengers as bearers of good news as well as of warning in order that mankind should have no plea against Allah after the Messengers. And Allah is Ever All-Powerful, All-Wise). The Prophet Muhammed (PBUH) said: Convey from me even a single verse.
Undoubtedly, the responsibility of clerics and preachers should be associated with wisdom and they should be experts in solving people’s problems and handling each individual case in an appropriate manner. They should also possess the ability to diagnose and try to find remedies to the ills of nations.
Allah the Almighty has clarified that the invitation to Islam requires and depends on wisdom (Invite (mankind, O Muhammad) to the Way of Allah (i.e. Islam) with wisdom (i.e. with the Divine Inspiration and the Quran) and fair preaching, and argue with them in a way that is better. Truly, your Lord knows best who has gone astray from His Path, and He is Best Aware of those who are guided.) Allah also clarified  that success in inviting people to Islam can be obtained only by treating them kindly (The good deed and the evil deed cannot be equal. Repel (the evil) with one which is better (i.e. Allah ordered the faithful believers to be patient at the time of anger, and to excuse those who treat them badly), then verily! he, between whom and you there was enmity, (will become) as though he was a close friend. But none is granted it (the above quality) except those who are patient, and none is granted it except the owner of the great portion (of the happiness in the Hereafter ie Paradise and in this world of a high moral character). This means that the one who possesses such wisdom and patience is bestowed a great merit, clerics and preachers should be as such so that they can endure with patience the harm and hardships they face in the course of inviting people to the straight path that they should tread.
Clerics and preachers should know how to guide people to good, acquaint them with righteousness, explain the religion to them and warn them about the spoil in their worldly life and the hereafter as people are always required to take the right way that leads them to safety in this world and eternal happiness in the life to come.
