Today’s Thought From Qur’an (16:17)

Today’s Thought comes from the Qur’an (16:17):

 “وَاصْبِرْ وَمَا صَبْرُكَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ”

“And endure you patiently [O Muhammad], your patience is not but from Allah…”

In general, patience is defined as the capacity to endure pain, trouble, and inconvenience, but Islam has added a spiritual dimension to endure hardships for the sake of Allah.

Although verse 16:127 is addressing the Prophet (pbuh) who was the paragon of patience, but it sets a criterion for all Muslims.

The Prophet’s life was not an easy one. It was full of difficulties and hardships, of trials and tribulations, of pain and suffering. In fact, no one in the history of mankind faced as many hardships as did our beloved Prophet (pbuh). Death would have been easier than the personal tragedies he experienced throughout his life, yet he remained steadfast, patient, and thankful to his Lord.

For example, he patiently endured being an orphan, being poor, and hungry. He was patient when he was forced to leave his homeland, his house and his family. He was patient when he was being persecuted, when some of his companions were being tortured and killed. He was patient when his enemies waged war against him, when the Bedouins acted ignorantly with him, when Jews plotted against him, when hypocrites conspired to harm him, and when many of his own relatives forsook him and declared war upon him. He was patient when his uncle died, when his wife died, when his son died, and when most of his people rejected his message. He was patient when his pure and chaste wife was accused of doing a vile deed, when people labelled him a poet,  a sorcerer, a madman, and a liar. Not only he remained patient after all these hardships and many more, he was steadfast and always seeking help from non but Allah.

Actions for the day is to realise that:

  • -In every aspect, situation and stage of your life to remain patient.
  • -Patience is your armour against everything that is harmful in this life.
  • -Every time you meet a challenge, recall Allah’s words to the beloved Prophet and how the Prophet faced his challenges in response.
